Dawn's Palette: A Journey Through Landscape Oil Painting with a Knife

Today, I created a small landscape oil painting using a palette knife, capturing the essence of dawn. I began by sketching the scene with pencil, then applied a yellow-orange underpainting mixed with turpentine. The sky was crafted with white and khaki, while distant mountains were highlighted with orange-yellow to suggest sunrise. Mountain shadows were rendered using ultramarine and rose, creating stark contrasts. Foreground hills were shaped with deep and light yellows plus orange, while bushes were added with cadmium red and yellow for an autumnal feel. The ground was a mix of yellow ochre, medium yellow, and white. Trees started with sun-lit yellow-green leaves, gradually adding layers of shadow. Finally, I added lively details to emphasize the differences between elements, completing this vibrant dawn landscape.
