Painting How To: Graffiti-style abstract painting

  1. **Laying the Groundwork:** I started this abstract piece by creating a loose, gestural underpainting using a combination of charcoal and thin washes of acrylic paint. I wasn't afraid to let the lines and marks be free and expressive, as they would eventually be layered over. This initial step helped me establish the basic composition and energy of the painting.
  2. **Introducing Bold Colors and Textures:** Next, I dove into color, using a palette knife and brushes to apply thick, impasto strokes of acrylic paint. I chose a vibrant palette of pinks, reds, yellows, blues, and black and white, allowing the colors to blend and interact on the canvas in a spontaneous and energetic way.
  3. **Enhancing with Line and Mark-Making:** To add another layer of visual interest and complexity, I incorporated line work and mark-making using charcoal and paint markers. This step helped to define certain areas, create contrast, and enhance the overall sense of movement and rhythm within the composition.

This abstract painting is a vibrant and energetic piece, full of movement and texture. The bold colors and expressive brushstrokes create a sense of spontaneity and joy, inviting the viewer to get lost in the abstract world of the canvas.
